Chicago Deep-Dish Pizza
Ingredients
- •Bread flour
- •Cornmeal
- •Yeast
- •Olive oil
- •Butter
- •Mozzarella cheese
- •Italian sausage
- •Crushed tomatoes
- •Garlic
- •Dried oregano
- •Parmesan cheese
Steps
- 1Mix bread flour with cornmeal, yeast, salt, and warm water, then knead in softened butter and olive oil until you have a smooth, slightly greasy dough.
- 2Let the dough rise in a covered bowl for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
- 3Press the dough evenly into a well-oiled deep round pan, pushing it up the sides to form a thick edge.
- 4Cook crumbled Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat for 7 to 8 minutes, until browned, then set it aside.
- 5Layer sliced mozzarella cheese directly over the dough first, followed by the cooked sausage.
- 6Simmer crushed tomatoes with minced garlic, dried oregano, and a pinch of salt for 10 minutes to make a thick sauce, then spoon it evenly over the toppings.
- 7Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top and bake in an oven preheated to 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 to 40 minutes, until the crust is deep golden brown.
- 8Let the pizza rest for 10 minutes before slicing so the layers set.
- 9Cut into thick wedges and serve hot with a knife and fork.
