Ingredients and Steps

Big text, no distractions — for the stove

Ingredients

  • Baguette
  • Pork pate
  • Grilled pork or cold cuts
  • Pickled carrot and daikon
  • Cucumber
  • Cilantro
  • Chili
  • Mayonnaise

Steps

  1. 1Split a crisp French-style baguette lengthwise, leaving one side hinged, and lightly toast it if desired.
  2. 2Spread a generous layer of pork pate along one side of the bread and mayonnaise along the other.
  3. 3Layer in slices of grilled pork or cold cuts, overlapping them evenly across the bread.
  4. 4Drain quick-pickled carrot and daikon, which should have been sitting in vinegar, sugar, and salt for at least 30 minutes, and scatter them over the meat.
  5. 5Add fresh cucumber slices, sprigs of cilantro, and sliced chili peppers.
  6. 6Season with a few drops of soy sauce and a crack of black pepper.
  7. 7Close the sandwich and press it gently together so the layers hold.
  8. 8Serve immediately while the bread is still crackly on the outside.
