Ingredients and Steps

Big text, no distractions — for the stove

Ingredients

  • Rice
  • Beef
  • Spinach
  • Bean sprouts
  • Carrots
  • Shiitake mushrooms
  • Fried egg
  • Gochujang

Steps

  1. 1Blanch or sauté the spinach and bean sprouts separately, then season each with sesame oil, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt.
  2. 2Julienne the carrots and stir-fry them briefly with a little oil and salt until just softened.
  3. 3Slice the shiitake mushrooms and sauté them in a hot pan until browned and tender.
  4. 4Marinate thin strips of beef in soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, and sesame oil for about 15 minutes, then stir-fry them quickly over high heat until just cooked.
  5. 5Fry an egg sunny-side up in a separate pan, keeping the yolk runny.
  6. 6Spoon warm cooked rice into a bowl and arrange the seasoned spinach, bean sprouts, carrots, mushrooms, and beef in separate sections around the rice.
  7. 7Place the fried egg in the center and add a generous spoonful of gochujang alongside a drizzle of sesame oil.
  8. 8Mix everything together thoroughly at the table just before eating so the rice picks up color and flavor from every component.
