Ingredients and Steps
Big text, no distractions — for the stoveIngredients
- Lentils
- Vegetables
Steps
- 1Rinse the lentils and combine them with a mix of vegetables such as pumpkin, raw banana, and potato cut into chunks.
- 2Add turmeric, a little salt, and enough water to a pressure cooker, then cook for three to four whistles until the lentils are soft and the vegetables are tender.
- 3Once the pressure releases naturally, open the cooker and mash the mixture lightly with the back of a spoon to bring it to a thick, slightly chunky consistency.
- 4Heat ghee in a small pan and add cumin seeds, dried red chili, and a pinch of asafoetida, letting them sizzle until fragrant.
- 5If desired, add a small piece of grated coconut or ginger paste to the tempering for extra depth.
- 6Pour the tempering over the cooked dal-vegetable mixture and stir well to combine.
- 7Simmer for another five minutes on low heat so the flavors settle, adjusting the consistency with a little hot water if it has thickened too much.
- 8Serve hot with steamed rice as a comforting, everyday stew.
